Ray Gallagher BMus(Hons) - Instrumental and Vocal Tutor
Ray Gallagher - Instrumental and Vocal TutorAbout Ray

Ray's interest in music started when he was 8 years old learning recorder, guitar and singing in the local church choir.

Singing in the choir is the only one of the three that lasted any length of time, so perhaps it is no surprise that teaching singing is now his vocation.

Later, when he started secondary school he began lessons on piano and trumpet, then later trombone. And then, at the age of 15 he started having Organ lessons. By this stage he felt he had quite enough instruments under his belt, and has somehow managed to restrain himself from seriously pursueing any others, although he does admit to "dabbling" with a wide variety of instruments over the years! (He secretly yearns to be a drummer, if only there was space in his house for a large drum kit!)

Then followed studies in Music at the University of Hull, from where he graduated in 1996 with a 2:1 honours degree.

His musical interests are vast and his experiences cover everything from singing in madrigal and plainsong groups, to playing keyboards, bass guitar and singing in bands. He claims there is no music that he really dislikes, just that his passions in some areas are stronger than others!

He has many years experience of directing orchestras and choirs, as well as performing on piano, organ and trombone. He was Musical Director of the Hull Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for over 10 years, and is currently involved with different groups.

Until 2011, he worked as an Instrumental and Vocal Tutor at Sheffield College of Music, and was Musical Director for the Doncaster Amateur Operatic Society 2012 production, a variety show called "The West End Tonight".

His current roles include:-
Musical Director - Thurcroft Theatre Group
Musical Director - Musical Notes, (mixed choir based in Conisbrough)
Musical Director - Lirica (Nottingham Ladies Chamber Choir)
Musical Director - Phoenix Operatic Society
Accompanist - Friends in Harmony (Community Choir)
Education and Training Officer - Royal School of Church Music (Sheffield and South Yorkshire).
